| Video Discription | On October 27, 2019 a Questair M-20 Venture, registration, N35HW, crashed on landing at Spruce Creek Airport, Volusia County, Florida. The pilot reported that during landing, his approach was unstable with an excessive descent rate. Surveillance video footage shows that the airplane touched down hard at the start of the displaced threshold, bounced, veered right and exited the side of the runway where it impacted terrain. A post-crash fire ensued. A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office report indicates that the pilot and owner of the plane, John Williams, 66, of Williamsburg, Virginia, and his instructor, James Crawford, 80, of Port Orange, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The airplane sustained thermal and substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage. The pilot did not report any pre-accident mechanical failure or malfunction with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation, and he did not submit a National Transportation Safety Board Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident/Incident Report Form 6120.1. |
