| Video Discription | Redness in the eye associated with pain may be due to various reasons. The most common condition is called as conjunctivitis. It may involve one eye or both the eyes. It is commonly called as Madras eye, caused by viral infections, occasionally by bacterial infections. There they are associated with pain, redness, watery discharge. The discharge may be mucous in nature, white in nature or maybe green in colour treatment of this condition depends if it is bacterial or viral. Person requires antibiotics or antiviral medication. Other cause is allergy. Eye allergy is also associated with redness and associated with a discharge which is white in colour and thready in nature. The other cause is the foreign body inside the eye. It may be in the conjunctiva or in the cornea. It may be associated with pain, redness and irritation. Treatment is to remove the foreign body from the eye and antibiotic as and when required.. the most important cause what on needs to remember is acute angle closure glaucoma. Here the eye hjas got acute pain, decrease in vision and redness. The treatment e is an emergency, the person needs to visit an eye surgeon immediately and try to reduce the intraocular pressure. The other causes are the anterior uveitis. There the vision may be slightly decreased and maybe associated with pain and redness. On examination, it may be noted that the person has a mild pain and a uveitis which needs treatment by an eye specialist only. The other serious complications or causes are bacterial, viral, or fugal. The most common is bacteria and fungal. They may be sight threatening. There may be a white spot in the center, sever pain and redness. They need to consult an eye specialist, depending on bacterial or fungal, they need to treat this condition. Post operatively they may turn red and maybe associated with pain. If this develops suddenly, one needs to immediately rush to the eye surgeon who has operated on you as this requires immediate treatment. So redness because of pain may be because of various reasons. One should not self-medicate thinking it is just eye redness. There are various causes and the treatment varies according to the cause and needs to consult an eye surgeon immediately associated with pain. |
