| Video Discription | When will the Hunt for Gollum take place? In the film adaptation, the timeframe between Gandalf's visit to Minas Tirith and his return appears to be just a couple of weeks, but in the book, 17 years actually pass. During this time, Gandalf seeks out Aragorn to help him track down Gollum, spanning many years and locations including the Anduin, Mirkwood, and even Mordor. Gandalf is unaware that Gollum has already been captured and tortured by Sauron for eight years, as revealed by the words "Shire" and "Baggins" when Gollum is freed. Aragorn eventually catches Gollum near the Dead Marshes and delivers him to Thranduil in Mirkwood for interrogation. However, Gollum escapes during an Orc raid on Mirkwood and hides in Moria until the events of "The Fellowship of the Ring." |
