Si ses pas le mènent d’abord vers le rock alternatif, le Britannique plonge quelques années plus tard dans un tout autre univers : celui de la techno, de l’acid house et du big beat. Ce faisant, il embrasse pleinement la mouvance rave, en opposition aux directives rigoristes de l’Angleterre thatchérienne. Commence ainsi une carrière rythmée par des DJ sets d’anthologie, des albums qui ont marqué l’histoire du genre (comme par exemple le cultissime You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby, publié en 1998), des remixes 4 étoiles, des collaborations à gogo… De quoi placer Fatboy Slim comme une figure incontournable sur le Mont Olympe des noctambules. Avec plus de soixante ans au compteur, le DJ reste vissé derrière ses platines. Il le montre une nouvelle fois à Nuits Sonores, au cours d’un set dans plus pure veine Fatboy Slim. Indémodable. Filmé le 10 mai 2024 à Nuits Sonores, Lyon. ____________ 🇩🇪 Fatboy Slim heißt im bürgerlichen Leben Norman Quentin Cook und wurde 1963 in einem Vorort von London geboren. Seine ersten musikalischen Gehversuche startete der Brite im Alternative Rock, doch schon wenige Jahre später tauchte er in eine völlig andere Welt ein: Techno, Acid House und Big Beat. Dabei identifizierte er sich ganz mit der Rave-Bewegung, die sich gegen die strengen Vorgaben der Thatcher-Regierung auflehnte. Seine Karriere war geprägt von legendären DJ-Sets, von Alben, die Geschichte schrieben (z. B. die Kultscheibe „You've Come a Long Way, Baby“ aus dem Jahr 1998, lässigen Remixen und jeder Menge Kollabos. Fatboy Slim wurde zum treuen Begleiter der Nachtschwärmer auf diesem Planeten. Mittlerweile hat der DJ über 60 Jahre auf dem Buckel, steht aber immer noch unbeirrbar hinter den Turntables. Sein Talent stellt er ein weiteres Mal bei den Nuits Sonores unter Beweis – mit einem Set in bester Fatboy-Slim-Manier. Einfach zeitlos. Aufzeichnung vom 10.
