Find out about my proposition for a new genre: the Encyclopedic Film. See here how even TV series like "Narcos" and "Euphoria" meet the criteria. See how movie history was shaped by innovative filmmakers who first developed the genre through creative directing that pushed the art form forward. See how D.W. Griffith was the only Encyclopedic Director whose style became the mainstream (and is still used to this day). Then how Abel Gance helped silent cinema reach its zenith. Sound film was catapulted forward by Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane". Then only Sergey Bondarchuk's "War and Peace" came close to its busy style. The 90s brought a rebirth of the genre when Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" invented the Encyclopedic Screenplay and Oliver Stone elevated it to new heights with "JFK", whose style is still the genre's crowning achievement.
