I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple cabins and structures from the timber on the land. I may have made a huge mistake as doing this at the start of Winter in late November may make foundation work and general construction difficult if not impossible. In this episode I break trail to the build site overlooking the river, set-up my long term hot-tent camp, clear the site, and build the foundation for the two storey 12'x16' cabin that will become my first home and base of operations going forward. My first project is a 12' by 16' cabin using the BUTT AND PASS method with raw logs. It will include a sleeping loft and a steel roof. I will not be milling or saddle notching the logs, but chinking in the small gaps that do appear with the butt and pass method with raw logs. This method's main advantage is SPEED.
