| Video Discription | People left stranded by the floods have been rescued not just by emergency services or defence personnel but often by strangers lending a hand. The community rallied together as people were out on their boats and jet skis rescuing those in need across south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales. Australian Surfing champion Mick Fanning was one of those who has been helping the people around him, saying the scenes of widespread flooding were “really confronting”. “We were just trying to do what we can, we knew people needed help and there wasn’t much ripple around so as a group of people with jet skis and boats we just got on with the job,” he told Sky News Australia. “Now we’re still deploying supplies and water, food, fuel, helping clean up … we need people to chip in and help and hopefully we can make this job a little easier for people and still help people who need help.” |
