The word formula in the name refers to the set of rules to which all participants' cars must conform. A Formula One season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix, which take place worldwide on both purpose-built circuits and closed public roads. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher hold the record for most World Driver Championships (7). There have been a total of 34 World Driver Champions between 1950 and 2023. Sebastian Vettel holds the record for the youngest driver to win a World Championship at the age of 23 years, 04 months and 11 days. Juan Manuel Fangio, who has won 5 World Championships, holds the record for the oldest driver to win a World Championship in 1957 at the ripe age of 46 years, 01 months and 11 days.
