About the composer: Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687), born Giovanni Battista Lulli, was an Italian-born French composer, instrumentalist, and dancer who is considered a master of the French Baroque music style. Best known for his operas, he spent most of his life working in the court of Louis XIV of France and became a French subject in 1661. Personal notes: Yes, it seems that this piece of music was made as a "parody" of grandiloquent melodies for ceremonies, but although it was considered that way during its creation, I personally think that this music has the essence of France during the 17th century, especially the court of Louis XIV.
