The earthquakes ranged between 3.0 and 4.8 in magnitude. Building damage usually starts to occur with an earthquake over a 5.0 magnitude, so there hasn't been any reported structural damage. Not everybody felt these quakes, but a geologist in Tetonia became keenly aware of the shaking both at 6pm last night and 9am this morning. The earthquakes originated northeast of Jackson, Wyoming and were felt as far west as Tetonia. "I was right here chopping carrots and shredding lettuce when the first one hit. It caught me completely by surprise because it was so sharp. I was sitting here this morning when the computer monitor started doing this," said Rob Young, a geologist. "What went through you mind when these earthquakes hit?" I asked Young. "Neat, hahaha," Young bursted out in laughter. "Well, of course, a geologist would say that, but any other thoughts?" I inquired. "Immediately following that, I'm sensing the house, seeing what's going to happen, and listening to the creeks and groans because the house moves," said Young. Before these latest quakes, Young says he has experienced four others in the 36 years he's lived in Tetonia. Young says the Tetons are still growing, and that's possibly why the small quakes are rumbling. "They can move like this, they can move like that, and they can move like this," demonstrated Young as he showed how the fault lines can maneuver. "It was really interesting because yesterday it felt like a sharp (drop), the one this morning was more of a roll, and it actually moved the monitor that much," showed Young. And while there wasn't any reported structural damage from these quakes, it's hard to ignore the earth's grumblings which remind us it's still there. Kori Smith wrote this on our facebook page: "My husband stopped talking and looked around... then he said, "'Never mind, but I swear I felt the earth move!' Crazy!"
