As Mr Kahn explains, the Gram Sabha is a village meeting in which every village resident over 18 has a right to take part. It is part of the Panchayati Raj, India's system of local government. The Gram Sabha elects the Gram Panchayat, a council of elected members that takes decisions on key issues in a village's social, cultural and economic life. It therefore acts as a watchdog for the Gram Panchayat. |
