| Video Discription | GRSE Survey Vessel (Large) The GRSE-class survey vessels are a series of four survey vessels planned to be built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata for the Indian Navy. The order value for these four vessels is Rs. 2435.15 crore. The vessels are equipped with highly advanced state-of-the-art hydrographic equipment & sensors including a Hello Hanger to accommodate one Advanced Light Helicopter. With the capability to carry four Survey Motorboats and an integral helicopter these ships can undertake full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys of Ports and navigational channels. This help in the mapping and determination of navigational channels/routes. In addition, the vessels can undertake surveys of maritime limits up to exclusive economic zone (EEZ). These vessels are deployed for collection of oceanographic and geophysical data for defence applications. Importance for Indian Navy The data provided by these vessels helps Indian Navy to operate their war ships and especially submarines deep inside the blue waters. The reason why China keeps sending its survey and dual-purpose spy vessels in the IOR is to collect these hydro-graphic information to be able to effectively operate its submarines. At present nobody knows the IOR better than Indian Navy and all credit for the same goes to these survey vessels. These vessels also perform search & rescue, ocean research and function as hospital ships for casualties. In their secondary role, these shall be capable of performing limited search & rescue, limited ocean research and operate as hospital ship/casualty holding ships. 3 out of 4 vessels launched Three out of four vessels of this class have already been launched with the recent one launched on 26th November 2022. These vessels are built by GRSE in collaboration with L&T. The Survey Vessel is signing example of Make-In-India with 80% indigenous content by cost. These modern, indigenously developed 110-metre long and 16-metres wide vessels have a displacement of nearly 3,400 tonnes and can attain a top speed of 18 knots with an endurance of 6,500 nautical miles. The ship can be fitted with a CRN 91 naval gun. The Close Range Naval-91 is a naval version of the Medak 30mm automatic gun. With a range of 4km, the gun has a rate of fire of 200-300 rounds per minute.
