Our Adi Koplewitz goes inside one to see what they're all about. Story: Agents of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, who devised the operation to steal Iran’s nuclear archives last year, were awarded the Golomb Security Prize on Tuesday. Israeli President Reuven Rivlin awarded them with the prize, along with teams from the Israel Defense Forces, Shin Bet security service and defense industries. Also present at the annual award ceremony were Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel Defense Force (IDF) chief Aviv Kohavi and Defense Ministry Director-General Udi Adam. In April 2018, Netanyahu unveiled glimpses of what he said were "55,000 pages and 55,000 files" pinched from a secret nuclear archive kept by Iran in a dilapidated Tehran warehouse. The gigantic trove of documents were stolen from an Iranian nuclear archive back in 2018, fleshing out details of the minutely-planned operation carried out by Israel's Mossad intelligence agency. The second top security prize went to a multidisciplinary team from the IDF Northern Command for locating and destroying cross-border attack tunnels dug by Hezbollah into Israeli territory, during Operation Northern Shield which was concluded last January. Ahead of the ceremony the army issued a statement saying: “The work of this team allowed the IDF to carry out Operation Northern Shield in a way that enabled the discovery and neutralization of six attack tunnels.” |
