| Video Discription | Diamonds often contain details which are not visible to the naked eye but which are fascinating to understand. If you try and polish a diamond, it can sometimes break apart due to internal strain within the diamond. It isn't possible to see the strain using the naked eye - you have to use a polariscope. If the diamond contains strain, or defects, within the internal structure, you can see a rainbow pattern within the diamond. In this video we look at a large, 5.5 carat rough diamond which to the naked eye looks superb, but if polished is likely to break apart and ruin the value.
