Hello Everyone! Welcome to the 8th Episode of our South Korea Travel Vlog. We are going historical today so I hope you will enjoy this tour around the popular historical sites in Korea.
Before we head out and explore, we went to a hanbok shop. A hanbok is a traditional Korean dress that has rich in historical value. You can rent it online via Klook or KKDay and the shops are strategically placed near the historical sites. Entrance fee to these historical sites of Korea are for free if you are wearing hanbok.
Our first itinerary is to visit Bukchon Hanok Village. It is Korean traditional village in Seoul with a long history located on the top of a hill between Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Royal Shrine. The traditional hanok village is composed of many alleys, hanok and is preserved to show a 600-year-old urban environment. It is best to explore it wearing hanbok. Bukchon Hanok Village is one of historical sites of Korea which has rich in historical value.
Our time is limited since we need to catch up the changing of the guards ceremony in Gyeongbokgung Palace. This is my first time seeing changing of the guards so this experience is something I can treasure and it is a plus since we are wearing hanbok. After the changing of the guards ceremony we went ahead and explore the Gyeongbokgung Palace. Another historical site of Korea as it was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. Built in 1395, it is located in northern Seoul, South Korea and the largest of the Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon dynasty.
Our next itinerary is another historical site of Korea, The National Folk Museum of Korea located within the grounds of the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It uses replicas of historical objects to illustrate the history of traditional life of the Korean people.
Our last stop is Changdeokgung Palace. It is a good walk from Gyeongbok Palace and is one of the Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon Dynasty. It was also added in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997 which stated "outstanding example of Far Eastern palace architecture and garden design" being exceptional because the buildings are "integrated into and harmonized with the natural setting" and adapted "to the topography and retaining indigenous tree cover." This is another historical site of Korea that has rich in historical value.
I know this vlog came out a bit late (filmed October 2019) but I hope I was able to inspire you and show to you the historical sites of Korea. If you are a Korean TV Drama and KPOP fan, you must have seen these sites on most of their historical TV Dramas and Music Videos which is a long list to write down. Share your experience in the comment box if you have visited these historical sites of Korea, have tried wearing hanbok and have visited a hanok village.
