Designed for a family of three, the Nishizaki House addresses the dual challenge of urban living in Okinawa—balancing proximity to dense residential and commercial zones with a desire for tranquility and comfort. The architectural response is a rectangular two-story structure that strategically divides public and private spaces. On the first floor, public areas such as the living room and tatami room are seamlessly connected to the surrounding environment, offering views and ventilation while maintaining a sense of openness. Natural light floods in through carefully positioned courtyards and skylights aligned along the north-south axis, enhancing the indoor environment with openness and airiness. In contrast, the second floor houses private spaces including bedrooms and bathrooms, ensuring privacy and retreat from the bustling surroundings.
