| Video Discription | The Horniman Conservatory was originally built at the Croydon home of Frederick Horniman’s parents, in 1894. Conservatories were popular additions to large houses in the 19th Century. As well as being nice spaces to be in, they provided a warm climate for sensitive plants. By 1982 the Conservatory had fallen into disrepair, so in 1989 it was carefully dismantled, moved and reconstructed at the Horniman, where it has stood ever since. There are lots of different patterns and designs to see inside and outside the Conservatory, as well as a sundial set into the glass. Today the Conservatory is a wedding venue, performance space, and has featured as a backdrop for music videos and fashion shoots. https://www.horniman.ac.uk The Horniman Museum and Gardens is an inspiring, surprising, family-friendly, free attraction in South London’s Forest Hill. We’ve been open since Victorian times, when Frederick John Horniman first opened his house and extraordinary collection of objects to visitors.
