The shoulder check, otherwise known as the blind spot check, allows you to see the areas beside your car that the mirrors don't allow you to see. The three mirrors on your car (the rear view mirror and the 2 side mirrors) allow you to see the majority of the areas behind and beside your car, but the shoulder checks allow you to see the remaining areas.
