Her goal is to develop therapies to allow people who don’t have these genes to also enjoy the benefits. Dr. Milman discusses her research on the connection between growth hormones and aging. She explains why taking growth hormone supplements to slow aging can actually backfire and may lead to a shorter lifespan and an increased risk of conditions like cancer, cognitive problems, and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Milman also discusses her research on the process of cellular cleaning called autophagy and whether lower levels of growth hormones can stimulate this process and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. Dr. Milman is the director of human longevity studies at Einstein’s Institute for Aging Research.
