Hwaseong is a piled-stone and brick fortress of the Joseon Dynasty that surrounds the centre of Suwon City, of Gyeonggi-do Province.The fortress was established as a strategic military stronghold and served as a tribute to the king's father, Crown Prince Sado, who was unjustly executed. The fortress spans approximately 5.7 kilometers and features a variety of military facilities, including gates, bastions, and command posts. The architectural design of Hwaseong Fortress is notable for its innovation, incorporating both traditional Korean and modern military elements. The walls of the fortress are adorned with various sculptures and decorations. Hwaseong Fortress has played a significant role in Korean history, providing protection against external threats and serving as a symbol of the Joseon Dynasty's strength. In 1997, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognizing its historical and architectural importance. Today, the fortress is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its well-preserved structures and scenic surroundings.
