All these voters were below 18 years of age during the 2014 election, and this time, their votes play a big role in deciding who comes to power. This huge batch of voters was born after the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition and the Mandal reservations, both of which are influencing events for older voters. And for many political parties, this voter base could change their fortunes. There will be around 1.49 lakh new voters in each of the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies. 1.49 lakh is larger than the margin of victory in 297 seats across India in the 2014 elections. These new voters could affect the outcome in 282 seats.
