| Video Discription | Inbound leads versus outbound selling, or as many in marketing will call it: Inbound marketing vs. outbound marketing. This is a problem too many people get hung up on it. Let me explain the difference. You cannot rely on inbound marketing for all of your leads. Outbound marketing is outbound selling and that means you have to engage. The way to see it is inbound marketing / leads have depreciating value, you have to respond to them immediately. Outbound selling is about having to create appreciation with the prospect, this takes time. To handle both you must have two separate processes and is one reason why I tell sales organizations to have two separate sales teams, one for inbound and one for outbound. If you’re a person who must deal with both then you must be able to segment the two activities and never mix the processes. This means segmenting your time and having dedicated windows of time for each one. The inbound leads you have to respond to as fast as possible. Your outbound activity is going to take 10, 15 or more touches to get a prospect engaged. If you’re not regimented it can become too easy to start blending the two together. The problem is you will begin treating inbound leads with the same drawn out process you use for outbound. The result is the inbound leads won’t turn into customers at the rate they should and you will start blaming marketing for giving you bad leads.
