For the past few months, I have been on a mission to find all of the best curry houses and Indian food restaurants around the world while introducing people to the vibrant world of Indian cuisine. Come with me as I eat Indian food with Isabella from the Drooling Goddess and teach her everything I know!
Isabella is a massive foodie like me, so I was stoked to take her to Ashoka Indian Cuisine in my hometown of Miami. She’s coming out with her own cookbook soon! We’d be eating a mix of northern and southern Indian foods. Inside, we met the owner, Amrit, who showed me their Jaan, which is a paan liqueur. We also met the bartender, Ravi.

Ravi made us a specialty drink with it called Paan Havana. It was sweet and fragrant, and tasted like paan! Then, it was time to visit the kitchen, where we watched them make garlic naan, dosas, Kerala beef fry, butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, raita, biryani, and more!
Back at our table, we had chili paneer, a masala dosa, garlic naan, chicken biryani, beef fry, and lamb chops in coconut gravy. The masala dosa was stuffed with aloo (potatoes) and came with sambar, tomato chutney, and coconut chutney.
It was light and crispy but still a little doughy, and went well with the coconut chutney! The sambar was also very flavorful and full of vegetables. Next was the chili paneer, an Indo-Chinese dish from Kolkata. It wasn’t too spicy and was full of bell pepper!
The beef fry contained onions, ginger, and curry leaves and was like a dry stir fry. While we ate, we talked a bit about her upcoming cookbook, Food For All, which contains 40 recipes and will be available in April!
Next were the lamb chops, which blew my mind! They were juicy, smoky, and a little crispy on the outside. The curry took it to another level, and the meat close to the bones was unbelievably tasty! Sopping up the curry with the naan made it even better. They were the best lamb chops ever!
Then, we jumped on the chicken biryani, which was so good! I taught Isabella how to eat it with her hands. Adding raita made it creamy and helped glue the grains of rice together!
Next, we grabbed some items from the buffet including veg pakora, Malabar paneer, dal, and kheer. Then, we finished with dessert: gulab jamun, mango kulfi, ras malai, and kheer. The gulab jamun was very sugary, while the ras malai was very creamy and crumbly, and had a nice saffron flavor.
Mixing the gulab jamun with the ras malai is the ultimate Indian dessert! We also loved the mango kulfi, which was icy, dense, and full of fresh mango flavor.
All in all, I think I’ve made a believer out of Isabella! Be sure to get her cookbook when it comes out!
