These proclamations of the twenty-first century as India's century were founded not only on the country's phenomenal economic growth following the liberalisation period of 1991 and the corresponding increase in military infrastructure, but also on the fact that India is the largest functional democracy, has the largest diaspora in terms of population, has a significant influence in the entertainment industry both regionally and globally, and has a spectacular religious and linguistic diversity. India has continuously increased its super power potential to project national power in the region, whether it be through massive disaster-relief operations in the wake of the 2004 tsunami or the world's largest civil evacuation during Operation Rahat. The COVID-19 outbreak, inflation, the conflict in Ukraine, rising energy and food prices, and the disastrous consequences of climate change are the most visible signs that the world is not in a stable position. Additionally, there are observable indicators that the world is about to enter a protracted period of instability, for example, Europe, which has been hit hard by rising energy prices, is more likely to enter a recession, which is defined as two consecutive quarters of GDP decline. China, on the other hand, appears to be in even worse shape.
