IPL 2024 to start from March 22, all matches to be played in India: IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal Said.
IPL 2024 Schedule: Indian Premier League 17th season ( Tata IPL 2024 ) will start from March 22 and will be played entirely in India despite the matches clashing with the Lok Sabha elections, the chairman of the league, which has become a decacorn and is the richest cricket league in the world, said on Tuesday.
"We are looking at a March 22 start for the tournament. We are working closely with the government agencies and we will first release the initial schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India," IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI.
IPL schedule only for the first 15 days will be revealed and the roster for the other games will be decided after the Lok Sabha elections dates are announced, he added
ET had reported earlier that Lok Sabha dates will likely be announced in the second week of March.
According To The TOI And Cricbuzz Reports that Tata IPL 2024 will commence on March 22, five days after the conclusion of Women's Premier League. Reports said IPL 2024 may run till May 26, leaving just five days for the Indian cricket team to prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup that starts from June 2 in the US and the Caribbean. India's first game in the T20 World Cup is scheduled on June 5 against Ireland.
However, the IPL this season will clash with the Lok Sabha elections that are typically held in April to May. In the past, IPL had to move matches overseas as it clashed with general elections.
IPL 2024 to start on March 22, as per BCCI plans
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to start the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League from March 22.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to start IPL 2024 from March 22.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, said that the schedule of the tournament could be announced in two halves - initially for the first fortnight, and the rest will be decided once the dates for the general elections are confirmed.
“As of now, we plan to start the tournament in Chennai on March 22,” Dhumal told this publication. “We are keeping a tab on the situation and since the dates for the general elections are announced, we can plan the later half of the tournament accordingly…”
Being the defending champion, Chennai Super Kings will begin its campaign at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
Amid speculations that the tournament could be conducted overseas due to the general elections, other sources in the Board have confirmed to this publication that efforts are being taken to ensure that the entire tournament is played in India. A few franchise sources also indicated that the Board has informally told them about the fixtures being announced in phases, and that there are back-up plans as well.
the BCCI had earlier decided to host the second edition of the Women’s Premier League, only in two venues - Bengaluru and Delhi. The tournament, beginning in Bengaluru on Friday, will get over on March 17 in Delhi, allowing a five-day gap to the Board and the host broadcaster to get things in order.
