The long-awaited for some, completely dismissed by others, game of the year is finally here. Gotham Knights. This game has been all over the place throughout the last year. It started with one of the most bizarre ad campaigns I’ve ever seen for a AAA game, with months worth of cryptic images and texts that just about every major news outlet was trying to decrypt. Everyone pretty much knew it was a new Bat-family game centered around the Court of Owls after the first pic, but it was still eventually revealed at DC Fandome as the game we have today. At one point, it was said to be on both last and next gen consoles to appeal to a wider market. However, WB eventually sneakily revealed that it would only be coming to newer consoles, thus eliminating a massive chunk of their market, because new consoles are just impossible to come by! As the release date grew ever closer, excitement only seemed to dwindle. More and more gameplay footage was shown, and people just grew more distant from the project, because it just wasn’t Arkham their beloved. I personally stayed away from most promo stuff, aside from a few story trailers, so that might be why I was always part of the hype group for this game. I genuinely have no idea what most of the gameplay looked like going in, so it was interesting to see if peoples complaints were justified or not. Compound all that with CW making yet another terrible tv show capitalizing on this game’s hype train while having nothing to do with it, and you’ve got an absolute PR disaster for Gotham Knights. And now, it’s time to see if all that really did reflect the game in question. Truth be told, it didn't.
