From Sep 7, arrivals will not need to present a negative coronavirus test certificate if they are triple vaccinated. There had been speculation that Japan would open its borders to more travellers and that independent foreign tourists would be allowed to enter. However, premier Fumio Kishida reiterated that the country would reopen its borders in a gradual manner. Currently, Japan has the most restrictive border rules in Asia -- with the exception of China.
