The 59-year-old petrol head has turned his attention to 16-year-old climate change activist Greta once again as he promotes the new series of his Amazon Originals show, The Grand Tour. Jezza - who has made a habit of singling out the young activist both on social media and in his column for The Sun - has accused the Swedish star of being a hypocrite. Dismissing her as nothing more than “a stupid idiot,” Jeremy suggests her speech at the United Nations in September offered no solutions when she scolded World Leaders when she accused them of stealing her “dreams and childhood”.“We've been aware of climate change for quite some time, and there's that weird Swede running around making all sorts of ‘we're going to die’ noises, so we're all aware of it,” he told the Independent. “But rather than having her jumping up and down and waving her arms in the air, you can actually go there and say, ‘Bloody hell, fire! Look at what this climate change has done to this place’,” he continued, as he discussed witnessing first hand the impact of climate change as he saw rivers reduced to puddles while filming The Grand Tour in Cambodia.“We simply said, ‘Here's an example of it.’ What do you want me to do now? Get on my carbon fibre yacht and go and shout at Donald Trump?" he continued. Jez accused Greta of hypocrisy as she often jets around the world and in the summer she traveled to the USA on a boat - which was partly powered by diesel. “I think she's a weird Swede with a bad temper. Nothing will be achieved by sailing across the ocean in a diesel-powered yacht, and then lying about the diesel engine,” he continued. “And did you see she went to Chile for the climate conference which was then moved to Madrid? I literally s*** myself laughing. She’s an idiot because scientists will solve this, and nobody is going to solve it by running around and going on strike and not going to school, because then you're not in your science lessons, so she's a fool,” he said.This week Greta was humbled to learn that the European Parliament is taking steps to combat climate change following a year of constant campaigning by the star. “In the middle of the ocean I’m struck by the news that the EU Parliament has declared a climate emergency,” she wrote on Twitter on Thursday. “We can’t solve a crisis without treating it as one. Let’s hope they now take drastic sufficient action,” she added.The teen has come under fire from some critics for inciting fear among children that the world will soon end due to climate change. Australia's Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, said the teen was causing children "needless anxiety" with her apocalyptic views of the future. However many other have hailed her for putting a global spotlight on Climate Change - with German Chancellor Angela Merkel this week announcing she was inspired by the Swedish teen to push forward EU plans to tackle the crisis. |
