According to the 2011 census, Jodhpur district had a population of 36,87,165. It is the second most populous district of Rajasthan after Jaipur district. Jodhpur district has a sex ratio of 915 females for every 1000 males.

Economy
The economy of the district is dependent on agriculture. Handicrafts and tourism are also sources of livelihood in the district. Wheat and Mathania red chillies are cultivated in the district. Training centers of Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Border Security Force have been set up in Jodhpur.
