Joey Chestnut has won the famous 2018 Nathan's Hot Dogs Eating Contest, his third consecutive championship, and set a world record in the process. The 34-year-old Kentucky native packed 74 hotdogs and loaves of bread in 10 minutes on a stifling day in Coney Island, claiming his eleventh victory in the past 12 years. Won by 11 hot dogs and buns. During the first quarter of the contest, Chestnut was finishing his 18th hot dog and bun, caught in a tight race with several other competitors, including the 2015 champion Matt Stonie. But Chestnut separated in the following minutes showing an incomparable food resistance. He maintained a rhythm of approximately seven hot dogs and buns per minute. The rest of the competitors simply could not keep up, and Chestnut opened a double-digit lead around the middle of the 10-minute race. He continued to stretch the advantage in the section at a voracious pace ending with 74 hot dogs, a dominant margin, 11 hot and bun over the second place finalist Carmen Cincotti. In 2007, Chestnut shocked the world when he ate a world record of 66 hot dogs and buns, supplanting six-time defending champion Takeru Kobayashi of Japan. Since then, he has been absolutely dominant, winning 11 of the last 12 contests. The only time he could not win was in 2015. His 74 hot dogs this year exceed the record of 73.5, also in the hands of Chestnut. |
