| Video Discription | The Indian Constitution allows for a joint session of Parliament to resolve deadlocks between the two houses—Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. In India's bicameral legislature, both houses must agree on a bill before it can be sent to the President for approval. Anticipating potential stalemates, the framers of the Constitution included a provision for joint sittings to break such deadlocks. A joint sitting of Parliament is summoned by the President. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha presides over the joint session. If the Speaker is unavailable, the Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha presides. In the absence of both, the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha takes the role. If none of these officials are present, any Member of Parliament can preside, chosen by consensus between the two houses.
