At the end, stay tuned as we explore the inside the belly of Buddha. Only on the Epic Travel Adventures. 00:36- From the Yokosuka Station it will only take you about 45 minutes to the Hase Station via 2 trains. Catch it from Platform #3. 01:03- Riding trains in Japan is a pleasant experience as that they are safe, clean, reliable, and 99% on time. 01:19- From the Hase Station follow the sign for the Great Buddha via the West Exit. 01:44- As you make your way to the Great Buddha, stop and explore the beautiful city of Kamakura and everything it got to offer. The streets are very narrow and cute. 02:09- These are the statues of Roku Jizo or 6 Jizo along the Yuiga-hama Odori Ave. They are praying for martyrs and always come in a set of 6. 02:57- Cute stools with different cute faces. In Japan everything is cute. 03:23- The special soap they make in Kamakura. 03:25- The City of Kamakura, located in the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan is about 37 miles or 60 kms South of Tokyo. 03:32- Of course how can you not try the Matcha Ice cream? It is unique and highly delicious. 03:58- These red statues are the Nio guardians - the deities and the protectors of the Buddha and the Buddhism itself. 04:18- In Japan, before you enter any temple or shrine to pray you need to “Chozu” or to cleanse and purify yourself. The Chozu is performed using this Chozuya or a large basin with water. Make sure you do this before stepping on any sacred grounds. 05:46- The Great Buddha of Kamakura is also known by its official name of Kamakura Daibutsu is located inside of the Kotokuin Temple. Standing at approximately 44 ft high or almost 13 and a half meters, The Great Buddha of Kamakura, made out of bronze, is a monument that was built around the year of 1252 during the Kamakura Period. 06:09- This is a beautifully designed bronze incense burner. Inside you can place a bundle of incense sticks and surround yourself with the incense smoke to purify yourself. Remember not to light your incense sticks with other sticks inside the burner otherwise you will be taking someone else’s sins. 06:41- Originally, the Kamakura Buddha was inside of the great Buddha Hall also known as the Daibutsu-den. Since many earthquakes and tsunamis destroyed this Buddha Hall around the 14th and 15th centuries, the Buddha now sits outside. 07:02- In Japan, this is the only statue of Buddha designated as a national treasure. This statue weights an astounding 267,000 Pounds or approximately 133 and a half US tons or 121 metric tonnes. Inside the statue, the Kamakura Daibutsu is actually hollow which allows for the visitors to go in and explore. 08:01- These are the 1.8 meter long rice straw sandals called Wara Zori. In the year of 1951, they were originally woven by children hoping that Buddha would use them to walk Japan. Every 3 years the Wara Zori sandals are replaced by children. 08:28- To go inside the Buddha’s belly it is a moderate fee of 200Y each or about buck 83 as of this video. If you can I HIGHLY recommend exploring the Buddha’s belly as that this is a VERY rare opportunity to wonder inside a national treasure. Once inside, you can see how it was made. 09:24- This is the Kangetsu-do viewing hall. 09:28- PREVIEW* Next let’s head through the city to further explore Kamakura and visit the famous Hasedera Temple again.
