| Video Discription | Talking History is a documentary series on Rajya Sabha TV charting the past of fabulous Indian cities and their history. In this episode, we revisit the rise of Khilji dynasty in Delhi after the end of Turkic slave Mamluk dynasty. The dynasty was established by Turkic origin Sultan Balban's army general Jalaludiin Khilji. He was soon murdered by his nephew Alauddin Khilji, who took over and further strengthened the empire. Khilji is known for several measure, some very harsh, in market reforms, tax structure and agriculture and even his policy of alcohol prohibition. The era saw foundation of new cities Kilokri and Siri and the building of water reservoir at Hauz Khas. The Sultanate has by then started spreading out of Mehrauli with two new forts. Khilji is also known as a fierce raider who attacked several kingdoms in the south of India. One of his raid in the province of Warangal is most remembered for the famous bounty -- the dazzling Kohinoor diamond.
