| Video Discription | The Kiev Pechersk Lavra is one of 7 World Heritage Sites in Ukraine. The history of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra begins in 1051, during the time of Prince Yaroslav the Wise. Seeking solitude, the hermit monk Anthony settled here in a cave, becoming the founder of the Pechersk Monastery. Then his student Theodosius joined him. In 1073, Anthony built the Assumption Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary here. The monastery was repeatedly attacked, destroyed and burned. In 1096 the Lavra was attacked by the Polovtsians, and in 1151 the Turks visited the Lavra. In 1240, Batu attacked the city. And in 1718 there was a fire in the Lavra. In Soviet times, namely since 1917, the Lavra was again subject to destruction. In 1941, the Assumption Cathedral was blown up. It is not known who did this. The Cathedral was restored in 1995 by decree of President Leonid Kuchma. In 1990, it was included in the UNESCO list as a World Heritage Site. Objects of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is a whole complex of various buildings. In addition to the Assumption Cathedral, there is also a bell tower in the Near Caves, a bell tower in the Far Caves, the Onufrievskaya Tower, the Refectory Church of Saints Anthony and Theodosius, the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Temple of the Icon of the Mother of God, the Church of All Saints, the Trinity Gate Church, the Church of the Savior on Berestov, Church "Life-Giving Spring", Annozachatievskaya Church, galleries, museums and much more. But first of all, the Kiev Pechersk Lavra is known for its caves. The nearby caves, also known as Anthony's Caves, contain several ancient burial sites. Including the relics of Anthony himself. The total length is 383 m. 79 saints are buried here: the relics of Nestor the Chronicler, Ilya of Murom, Alpius of Pechersk. The distant Caves in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra contain the relics of 49 saints. Theodosius is buried here, there is a Feodosian church, an ancient cell of the saint and two more underground churches. The myrrh-streaming heads and thirty saints buried here are kept here. Miracles of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Like any holy monastery, the Kiev Pechersk Lavra is full of mysteries and secrets and is famous for its miracles. Several miraculous icons are kept here, the unusual effects of which have been noticed for several centuries. Among them are the icons “Assumption of the Mother of God”, “Pechersk Praise” and others. Myrrh-streaming heads are another of the relics of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. These are the heads of saints, which the Lavra monks have carefully preserved for many centuries in special vessels. Being dry, the remains stream myrrh, which is why they have the glory of miracles. It is impossible not to mention the miraculous possibilities of the holy relics that rest in the caves of the Lavra.
