| Video Discription | This was a popular emigré Ukrainian male veterans choir which re-formed in Toronto, Canada in 1975 and continued until around 2003. They performed at many venues in Canada and the U.S.A., including at the Caravana festival where various ethnic communities in Toronto had their own pavilions, in the Ontario Place Forum revolving theatre, and many other places. Often they were the headline act at various events. They went on 2 tours to Ukraine after it became independent from the Soviet Union. The Burlaka Choir preserved in their repertoire many songs of generations of emigrés who had to flee the Soviet Union and who struggled for freedom against it. «The Parting Song» is sad song about a fallen soldier who fell fighting for the freedom of his country. It originated during struggle of the partisans who continued to resist the Soviet occupation after WW2 ended. They continued their struggle for about a decade in the Karpathian mountains. Soloists : V. Voytovych, V. Drabik, M. Leshchyshyn In the Baltic countries there was a similar struggle against Soviet occupation after WW2 by the Forest Brothers that lasted for several years as well. They also produced a repertoire of songs which became popular after the fall of the Soviet Union and the regaining of independence of those countries.
