Latching problems of new mothers
We all know that a mother’s milk is most important for the baby’s survival. Along with supplying the essential nutrients, it produces anti-infective agents such as antibodies and white blood cells in the body, which develop immunity in the baby. So, if the baby is not able to breastfeed properly, then it starts impacting his overall health.
So, first let us understand what are the signs of good latching:
Signs of a good Latch
NO Pain
Empty breasts
Nipples turning upwards
Baby’s growth
Frequent diaper change
During baby’s breastfeeding, with the help of some signs, you can find out your baby is able to latch properly or not
Sign of a poor Latch
Sore nipples
Changed color after feed
Clicking sounds
Baby being fussy
If you experience pain and discomfort in your nipples throughout the breastfeeding session, then it is the first sign of poor latching. This will cause problems like pain in nipples, tearing of the skin of the nipples and redness with swelling to appear.
If, after the nursing session, you notice discoloration in the area around your nipples, then it is the second sign of poor latching. In such a case, the skin around the nipples becomes white after breastfeeding.
During breastfeeding, if you hear clicking sounds from the baby's mouth or if the baby is making unusual sounds, then it is a sign that the baby's suction is breaking at times which means his grip on the nipple is not right and due to it, the baby is not able to latch properly.
If the baby does not look satisfied even after nursing, and if he behaves more irritated and fussier, then also it is an alarming sign that the baby is not able to take the feed according to his needs.
