The cerebral cortex can be divided into 4 main lobes: frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, and temporal lobe. Each lobe of the cerebrum has its own anatomy and function including executive functioning, movement, and processing sensory stimuli such as touch, vision, hearing, taste, smell, and proprioception The cerebrum is made up of an outer grey matter layer called the cerebral cortex that surrounds the inner white matter layer. The folded cortex forms gyri (gyrus) and sulci (sulcus).
