Hi all,
I hope you are doing well. I get asked about this German citizenship, so here comes a video, hope that it helps! 😊🙏
Here is a short summary from the video:
As of 27.06.24, Germany’s new law for citizenship by naturalization is under effect!
Before that law, internationals living in Germany could get the citizenship within 8 years or 6 years with “Besondere Integrationsleistungen” (special integration efforts). They shortened it by 3 years. So, it is 5 and 3 instead of 8 and 6 years.
What does “Besondere Integrationsleistungen” (special integration efforts) mean? They have 3 criteria for this:
1. Especially good academic, or professional performance or civic engagement (e.g. volunteering activities),
2. Proof of language skills that reach at least level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and (Abitur, German high school diploma that counts),
3. If you can secure your livelihood and that of all family members without receiving public benefits. (you have a good job 😉 and financially secured without any government support
And overall requirements to apply for the citizenship are:
- Generally, a 5-year lawful and habitual residence in Germany
- Possession of a permanent residence permit or, as a national of Switzerland or their family members, a residence permit based on the Agreement of June 21, 1999, between the European Community and its member states and the Swiss Confederation on the free movement of persons, an EU Blue Card, or a residence permit for purposes other than those listed in §§ 16a, 16b, 16d, 16e, 16f, 17, 18f, 19, 19b, 19e, 20, 22, 23a, 24, 25 paragraphs 3 to 5, and § 104c of the Residence Act
- Commitment to the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany
- No activities hostile to the constitution
- Secure livelihood (generally no receipt of public benefits such as citizen's income and basic security)
- No criminal record, except for minor offenses
- Sufficient knowledge of the German language
- Knowledge of the legal and social order and living conditions in Germany
- Assurance of integration into German living conditions, particularly no simultaneous marriage to multiple spouses.
Thanks for watching, hope to see you next time! 😊🙏 |
