Lakshmi Vilas Palace is a historic building situated in Vadodara, Gujarat. Here Gaikwad royal family lives in the palace. This Maratha family used to rule Vadodara at some point of time. This family is given great respect in Gujarat. After getting independence from India, this family made many economic and social reforms in Vadodara. Gayakwad family has helped in preventing child marriage, eradication of untouchability and many more social and cultural development. Lakshmi Vilas Palace was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad in 1890. This palace is the world's largest palace, which is four times bigger than the Buckingham Palace of England and Aisle Palace. The 700 acres of land surrounding this palace is owned by Gaikwad royal family. There is also a museum, a cricket ground, and tennis and badminton court in this palace. There is also a golf court and a bird house near this palace. In this palace you can also see the oil painting of great painter Ravi Verma. Ranjit Singh is currently the Maharaja of this monarchy. This family has made significant contribution in introducing the Bank of Baroda in 1908. This palace is open for tourists from 9 am to 5 pm. Here, by paying fees of 150 rupees we can enter inside the palace. Eventually this palace was built in 1890 at a cost of 1, 80,000 pounds.
