Pt 1 In this video we go over ten commonly used slang terms you need to know! 1. fam: a slang term that is short for family, it could refer to one’s actual family, group of close friends, or just one friend. Examples: I enjoy going to the beach with my fam. Thanks for the letting me borrow your car for my interview, fam! I recently visited Arizona to see the fam. 2. crickets: complete silence Examples: We were expecting a round of applause from the audience, but instead we heard nothing but crickets. It was so embarrassing. As a teacher, it can be frustrating when you ask your class a question and are met with crickets. 3. “I feel you”: a response similar to: I understand you/ I sympathize with you/I agree with you Example: My friend and I were having a discussion about the rain. She says she hopes the rain clears up because she dislikes driving in the rain. I said to her, “I feel you.” I also hate driving in the rain. 4. to do (someone) a solid: to do (someone) a favor Examples: My uncle did me a solid when he mounted my television to the wall. Could you do me a solid and pick up my clothes from the dry cleaner’s? 5. flake: to fail to arrive at a place where you are expected. Usually without telling those who are expecting you. Example: I was excited when my date told me we could meet at the coffee shop, but unfortunately he flaked. I was there alone for one hour. 6. to be 100: to be completely honest Examples: Could you be one hundred with me? How do you like my cooking? I can appreciate a friend who is always one hundred with me. 7. to crash at: to sleep somewhere; spend the night at a place Example: If we go to a nightclub tonight, I’m going to have to crash at your apartment. I don’t want to have to travel all the way to mine. 8. to take an L: to admit that you have lost or failed at something; the L stands for loss Example: My friend beat me at ping pong and I just had to take the L. He’s a professional level player. 9. bad: describes a very attractive woman Example: I love watching movies with Halle Berry in them because she is bad! 10. beast: describes someone who is very good at a particular activity Example: Lebron James is the best basketball player ever! He’s such a beast!
