Rep. Rush Holt was honored and the featured speaker at the Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) 33rd Annual Membership Program http://www.peacecoalition.org/ which was held on June 6, 2014 at the Princeton, NJ Theological Center.
Rep. Holt spoke about his long relationship and being a Sponsor of the Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) with both him and the CFPA being strong champions for peace legislation and other related actions. As one of the few scientists in Congress, he has special credibility on technical aspects of peace issues. He has strongly opposed the Iraq War, and pushed for a more rapid exit from Afghanistan and understanding of the history Nuclear Arms Reduction. CFPA was proud to present him with its highest honor, the George F. Kennan Distinguished Peace Leadership Award.
During an extended 13 minutes Q&A period, Rush was asked a range of questions from why he had decided to retire from Congress, Probable Cause and Spying on Americans, Drones in the US to Jeff Laurenti http://www.unanyc.org/worldview_institute/faculty/laurenti_jeffrey.html comments and questions regarding US Treaties and the Reductions of Nuclear Weapons.
He has represented Central New Jersey in Congress since 1999. He is a resident of Hopewell Township, N.J. Born in West Virginia, he inherited his interest in politics from his parents. His father was the youngest person ever elected to the U.S. Senate, at age 29. His mother served as Secretary of State of West Virginia and was the first woman to hold that position. |
