ENGW VS NZW MATCH PREDICTION & ANALYSIS
New Zealand Women’s tour of England will begin with a 3-ODI series, the first of which is scheduled to be played at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
The two teams have played here before and the lowest total scored at this venue belongs to England Women when they were bowled out for 98 runs against the Kiwis.
The Kiwis also hold another record here of the lowest total defended - 161 runs against the hosts. Recently, the home team played ODIs and T20Is against Pakistan and were unbeaten in both series.
Before that the England Women toured New Zealand and won the T20I series 4-1 followed by a 2-1 ODI series win. The Kiwis have brought almost a similar squad from that series though they’re missing Lea Tahuhu in the bowling department.
These are well-matched sides with a nice balance of experience and youth in the squads. We reckon the opening ODI will be an exciting game of cricket with the visitors backing themselves to repeat their previous performances at the venue.
TEAMS PREVIEW
England Preview
The home team has a brilliant overall squad that ticks all the boxes. They’ve got the best bowlers, batters, and all-rounders for the limited-overs format.
Bowling all-rounder Nat-Sciver Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone will be leading the bowling attack. These two are the key front-line bowlers who will be looking for early breakthroughs.
Nat-Sciver Brunt is also handy with the bat at number 4. She scored an unbeaten 124 against Pakistan in the 3rd ODI last month. With skipper Heather Knight at number 3 and either Alice Capsey or Danielle Wyatt at number 5, England Women have got a strong middle-order.
The number 5 hasn’t been a constant. There are many options here. Wicket-keeper batter Amy Jones is another one. The batting lineup is quite deep and they’ve got plenty of reliable batters in the top 4.
In the bowling attack, Brunt and Ecclestone will be supported by Lauren Bell and Kate Cross while Charlotte Dean plays a key role in the spin department with her off-break bowling.
Maia Boucheir and Tammy Beaumont are the likely candidates for the opening slots in the batting lineup. The two haven’t been very consistent but are capable of big starts with Beaumont having found success against NZ Women in the recent past.
England Predicted Playing XI:
Tammy Beaumont, Maia Bouchier, Heather Knight (c), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Danielle Wyatt, Amy Jones (wk), Alice Capsey, Charlotte Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, Lauren Bell
New Zealand Preview
The White Ferns are all set to have another chance at beating England in ODIs and T20Is. They were outplayed by the England Women earlier in April this year and lost both T20I and ODI series.
Sophie Devine’s unbeaten hundred led them to their only win of the ODI series in the final match. There are several all-rounders in this squad and that adds to the variety in the bowling attack. But also allows for depth in the batting.
Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr are among the two most experienced batters in the top-order. They need to deliver big if the visitors are to stand any chance of winning this match.
Georgia Plimmer, who opens alongside Bates, failed in both her ODI appearances against England Women. She is another batter to watch out for in the top-order.
At 4 and 5, Sophie Devine and Maddy Green have some major roles to play. They will be tasked with building partnerships and taking the game as deep as they can.
After these two, there aren’t any big names in this batting order that can be relied on. As a result, both Devine and Green will have to take a cautious approach if they arrive at the crease early.
In the bowling attack, New Zealand Women will be missing Lea Tahuhu on this tour. However, they’ve still got Jess Kerr, Amelia Kerr, and Fran Jonas.
Opening batter Suzie Bates is also an experienced campaigner who’s very handy with the ball and was quite impressive against England at home.
New Zealand Predicted Playing XI:
Suzie Bates, Georgia Plimmer, Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine (c), Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Isabella Gaze (wk), Hannah Rowe, Jess Kerr, Eden Carson, Fran Jonas
