In the first story, a boxer agrees to throw a fight; next, a working-class man pines for a snobbish woman; and lastly, a bartender endeavors to protect his abused sister-in-law. Robert Townsend, Andre Braugher, Louis Gossett Jr, Rachael Crawford, Lynn Whitfield, Dule Hill, Carl Gordon, Djanet Sears, Don Dickinson, Michael Rawlins During his long acting career, the late Andre Braugher has only one directing credit - for his segment in this movie. The movie is comprised of three shorter tales: A Love Song for Dad (directed by & starring Braugher) A Love Song for Champ (directed by & starring Gossett) A Love Song for Jean and Ellis (directed by & starring Townsend) All three pieces were written by Charles Fuller, the playwright behind the Pulitzer Prize winning play 'A Soldier's Play', which he ultimately turned into the screenplay for the movie 'A Soldier's Story' (earning an Oscar nomination for that).
