Interceptor - The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2, released in the United States as The Road Warrior), is a 1981 film directed by George Miller.
The film, a sequel to Interceptor (1979), is the second film in the Mad Max franchise, starring Mel Gibson and set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. The plot of the film, a community of survivors forced to move to protect themselves from the assault of a ferocious band of marauders, follows the archetypal structure of the western genre, as does Max's role as a character with a hard heart, but who rediscovers his humanity .
The film received critical acclaim, in particular the setting, Gibson's acting, Dean Semler's photography and the work of costume designer Norma Moriceau were praised, who, thanks to the punk style adopted, popularized genres such as dieselpunk and cyberpunk in science fiction works of that period. The film was also a commercial success and received six Saturn Award nominations, winning Best International Film.
The Road Warrior became a cult film and numerous fan clubs of real "road warriors" were formed who still organize themed meetings and activities today. It is considered one of the best action films ever and also one of the best sequels ever made. Two sequels were made, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
