Have you seen any of the post-apocalyptic movies in the Mad Max franchise? The haunted, lone warrior, Max Rockatansky, and the fearless, Imperator Furiosa teaming up to outwit and outrun the sadistic Immortan Joe. You may have been captivated by the action or moved by the deep selflessness that defines Furiosa’s character. You may get caught up in the gripping battles and the daring escape, yet, this may not even be the most interesting part of the franchise. The most intriguing thing from the movie, may just be the numerous bad ass vehicles driven throughout the sandy terrain especially during the chase. From Max’s interceptor to Immortan Joe’s Gigahorse down to Furiosa’s War Rig, we have an avalanche of post-apocalyptic vehicles to keep us fully engrossed. But the War Rig has been unanimously declared the king of all the intriguing vehicles in the Mad Max franchise. The Movie Director, George Miller says of the vehicle “Apart from the actors this is the thing they most will be looking at in the movie." In this video, we will be looking at Furiosa’s “War Rig,” the vehicle in which Imperator Furiosa and the five wives attempt their bold escape from Immortan Joe. As we await the newest entry into the Mad Max Franchise; Furiosa, we take a look at the fearless warrior’s fascinating vehicle! The 78 foot long 18 wheeler is fashioned after the Czechoslovakian Tatra T815 and the 1940’s Chevy Fleet Master. The blend of both vehicles created the monstrous beast controlled by Charlize Theron in Mad Max, Fury Road. It sports a menacing appearance in accordance with the post-apocalyptic world where functionality is favored over aesthetics. The intimidating truck sports a front end capable of blistering through obstacles with a low hulking cow catcher in front. In the rear, the War Rig carries a huge cylindrical fuel tank and a fuel pod that shows how much of a fuel guzzler the war rig is. The fuel tank and pod act as a platform from which the war boys can attack and defend the vehicle. You’d find two turrets on the main tanker and both turrets are armed with harpoon guns. On the rear tanker, there are two swing arms which make it possible for the war boys to navigate the tops of the tanker and gain access to the pod. Spikes and sharp pieces of slanted metal protect the sides of the main tanker. In a world where oil is the Holy Grail, you’d understand why all of these measures are in place to protect the War Rig’s fuel tanker. The war rig is equipped with a 500hp Tatra factory racing engine, it also comes with two dummy superchargers protruding through the bonnet to give the appearance that the war rig is being powered by two engines. The cabin interior features a detachable steering wheel with a skull motif, it features an accelerator made of a foot measuring device and capable of locking at full throttle. You’d find ten firearms within the cabin, all placed at a distance Furiosa can easily reach. Here are some of the firearms you’d find in the cabin of the War Rig; the Taurus PT99AF, Luger PO8, Mauser C96, CBC 410 shotgun The center console of the vehicle boasts a variety of knobs and switches at the bottom while the top of the console is designed for storing useful items and tools. An arm is painted on the driver’s side of the war rig signifying that the driver, Furiosa, is missing an arm.
