Took a break from the Puglia beaches with a 3-day visit to Matera, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, with most time spent in the Sassi di Matera for rupestrian cave churches, cave houses, cave restaurants, and a cave Dali exhibition. Ended the visit with some sculptures made from 9/11 scrap metal. My favorite Materan meal? Excellent question! It’s La Pignata, a poor man’s mutton dish from back in the day. |
