Now you have to pay $25 to dump your mattress and they don't recycle them. So sad. We visited the Davis County landfill in Layton, Utah to talk about their mattress recycling program. The metal from box springs or inside a mattress goes to a metal recycler. The fluff is separated and goes to a cement plant in Utah (who paid for the machine). Mattresses can be recycled at a cost of $5 per mattress in this innovative program. Watch the mattress shredder shred 4 king size mattresses! We hope this is a model for other landfills and states on how to help solve the problem of landfill space and waste. It's typically very expensive for landfills to recycle mattresses because the machines they use cost a lot to buy and maintain. |
