SOUNDBITE (English) John Cusack/ Actor: ''Well, I think that if you have a script that is that good, and you just don't get to do films like this very often, so to do a script that's this good at this budget level which is healthy enough to be a big film and the international cast that you have, it's kind of a no brainer. I'm lucky to get the project, not the other way around. Any actor who has two brain cells would die to be in this film." 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Chow Yun-Fat/ Actor: ''He got away with direction, I don't have to think that much, just bang, bang, bang. Everyday we're not more that three takes right? So we're working in harmony.'' 7. SOUNDBITE (English) John Cusack/ Actor: ''I think when people are talented it sort of transcends and you feel it very cleary and I'm quite amazed that these actors are able to do it in a language that's not their own. There's no chance I could ever do anything in Japanese or Chinese. So they're at a pretty high level and it's my honour to be in the same film as these great actors.'' 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Jake Myers/ producer: ''We prepared this movie to shoot in Shanghai for a long period of time and ultimately the Chinese government felt that it was a little controversial for them so we weren't able to get a filming permit there, which has actually since been changed (and) we've made up with the Chinese government. But, yes it was complicated for us, but actually I think it turned out very well for the film because London has turned out to be very rich for us. The fact that we have shot here before, we used a lot of our people and all that to I think make a better film but we did initially intend on shooting in Shanghai. 1941 is a very sensitive period for the Chinese government so sometimes it's really difficult to get approvals there." CAST OF SHANGHAI FILMING IN LONDON Actors John Cusack, Li Gong and Chow Yun-Fat are currently in London shooting "Shanghai". The thriller, set in 1940s Shanghai, tells the story of an American spy (Cusack) discovering that his friend has been killed. Whilst unravelling the mysteries surrounding the death, Cusack's character discovers a secret world of conspiracies and deceit. The production initially encountered problems with the Chinese government, which denied them filming in Shanghai. They then decided to shoot the film in London and Bangkok. The international cast comes from Japan, China and America, and the film mixes all three languages.
