Because they lack object constancy and have no way to manage their own emotions. The narcissist has a sense of entitlement and thinks that everyone should do things the way they want it done. If they don’t, the get mad. The narcissist is never happy because nothing ever goes as they want it to all of the time. And there is only one reason a narcissist is nice and not mad. That is when they need something from you. When a narcissist is nice, think about what they might need in return. Is a narcissist capable of being nice? Of course, but only when they benefit. The narcissist isn’t nice because they want you to be happy. And when you experience the narcissist moving from nice to mad, stop taking the blame for the narcissist. They will blame shift and finger point to make you think you are the problem. And you may accept responsibility so that you don’t experience narcissistic rage or any of their other narcissistic punishment tactics. When the narcissist can’t control you, they get mad.
