| Video Discription | A bit of a diversion from British steam, but steam none the less, and another of my fascinations: narrow gauge railroads. This is Minitrains' phenomenal new HOn30 Forney locomotive, and I am very impressed with what they've done. She features directional forward and reverse lighting, very nice detail, and an unbelievably smooth running motor with a huge heavy flywheel to enable exceptionally smooth DC slow running. I admit, the slowest smooth running was not highlighted in this video as I was trying to work the transformer and camera at the same time. Hopefully, the gist gets across, however. HOn30 is HO scale equipment (proportional for an HO scale 1:87 person to operate) that operates on N scale track. The track I'm using here is Kato's Unitrack system, featuring 6" radius curves and a 90 degree cross over (which I may need to fiddle with as it currently presents dead spots a little too large for a loco with such a short wheel base, hence the higher speed the loco was being operated at, so the flywheel's momentum could help carry it across). It's very nice, simple to assemble track, and looks quite nice as well. As I develop my HOn30 layout scheme and affix it to something more permanent, the final track design will be solidified. I'm doing it "free hand" and not from any pre-set plan, so more progress (and perhaps a channel off-shoot) will be to come. |
